Hidden in Plain Sight

The number of cameras (two) and attempts (many) to get a photo I liked to use here is one of the reasons I re-started this blog. I first tried the new pocket digital camera I bought a few months ago. It's a Sony, and it did not cost much, but it seems nowhere as easy to use or as good quality as the Pentax it was supposed to replace. I reverted to one of my DSLR Canons and eventually got a shot I like. The kangaroo was a gift from two of my Aussie friends; the plant is one younger son left behind at one of the transitions in his life. Possession being nine-tenths and all, it's mine now.

New Day, New Rule

I'm cheating a bit today--but it's my blog so I can cheat if I want --by posting a photo that I did not take. Younger son took this one while showing me how to do something on the new camera. His photo and his guitar, but since he's my son it does circle back to me.

Who Says It's Not December?

My Christmas cactus blooms when it likes in the fall, only once having done so during the Christmas season. Who am I to argue with a plant? It blooms, is beautiful, and manages to survive in my care. That's enough to please me when it comes to a plant.

A Pot for Everything

The remnants of my recent morning re-potting houseplants. Yes, I have been told that houseplants are best re-potted in spring, before their growth season. As with many aspects of life, my intentions were good.

Saintpaulia

For a long time, I thought that African violets required some sort of magical extra-green thumb to keep them blooming. Uh, no. I got brave one day and bought two then proceeded to water them on and off when I watered my other houseplants (when Big Peace Lily starts to droop, everyone gets watered). The violets did fine. In fact, the violet in the foreground here (to the left of the evil penguin) is one I started from a leaf that got pulled off the violet in the background.
